Loch ness

Loch Ness is a large, deep, freshwater Loch. It is best known for alleged sightings of the Loch Ness Monster also known as “Nessie” to the locals. Loch Ness is simply overflowing with fascinating myths, history and tales of the legendary monster. No visit is complete with out a tour of the famous Loch.

The present ruins date from the 13th to the 16th centuries, though built on the site of an early medieval fortification. Urquhart played a role in the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century. The castle, situated on a headland overlooking Loch Ness, is one of the largest in Scotland in area. It was approached from the west and defended by a ditch and drawbridge. 


Take a stroll around the beautiful small village of Fort Augustus. Grab a spot of lunch by the canal and watch the boats go through the locks or take a leisurely stroll around the Abbey


Time to take a different view of Loch Ness as we take in even more beautiful scenery heading down the south side before arriving at Foyers.


The capital of the Highlands sits on the river ness and features excellent restaurants, walks and shopping opportunities.
